My patient had struggled with nerve pain that was happening now and again in her face. The pain initially started about 3 to 4 years ago. She would get pains on the right side of her face that varied from small electric shocks to hot, searing, stabbing pain. The pain was just below her right temple near her jaw. She went to a doctor and they thought it was jaw pain due to her major overbite. They wanted her to get jaw surgery due to her age. Once she had researched that, it was a definite NO!! She did braces and they corrected the overbite, however, the pain never went away and was gradually getting worse. At first, she was only getting episodes about twice a year. It soon turned into every few weeks, she had spoken to a friend that has trigeminal neuralgia and the symptoms were so similar. She then decided to go to the doctor, in April she had an MRI and diagnosed her with Trigeminal Neuralgia. "Trigeminal neuralgia is a chronic pain condition that affects the trigeminal nerve, which carries sensation from your face to your brain. If you have trigeminal neuralgia, even mild stimulation of your face — such as from brushing your teeth or putting on makeup — may trigger a jolt of excruciating pain."Mayoclinic.org The doctors decided to put her on anti-seizure medication, which she only used for 2 days, she didn't like the way it was making her feel so she stopped. She was having episodes 2 to 3 times per month, more in the winter months with the cold. However after covid due to wearing a mask, she started having episodes daily which then grew to have them 3 to 5 times a day, the pain was a hot searing stabbing pain which she would rate at an 8 or 9 pain level, which meant they were completely debilitating. She had come to me and we had a conversation, we discussed how it would benefit her to move towards fats and more of a keto diet. Due to how supportive high-fat diets are for nerve conditions. This would also help to ease the burden on the liver, due to high amounts of sugars and carbs. Not having the burden of filtering carbs and sugars possibly clogging the liver it now can focus on breaking down fats. Fats are key in nerve health, you have a myelin Sheath that goes around each nerve that is essentially a fat blob that the brain sends signals through and also protects the nerve. If something is causing demyelination and we are not able to nourish the sheath nerve health is compromised. After moving towards eating more fats the pains reduced to about once to twice a day, but the pain was minor rating at a 4 or 5. We then created a protocol for her supporting the liver, nerves, and the digestion of fats. I had also put her on a Protomorphogen, an extract of nucleic acids from the nucleus, which are specific to Standard Process. Great for people with chronic cases, generally it helps to protect from autoimmune attacks. While we are still working on this, since the change in diet and taking the supplements, She has reduced to now having maybe one episode a week at most, ranking about a 3. This is one of many testimonials of feeding the body to bring balance back. It is easy to feel there is not hope and to turn to medications that may rid you of symptoms, but realize you need to get to the foundation of what is causing the problem. If not you will keep finding you are dealing with it just in different symptoms.
